by Janice Anderssen,
It’s always good to see what’s trending for Spring and Summer, to check out what I can add to my home to keep it fresh and modern. Take a look at what’s trending for this Spring and Summer at home decor stores.
It’s all fine and well to see some of the international trends that are making an appearance, but for the average South African, we are driven by what’s in the stores and what’s available locally. We popped into a few local home decor stores to find out the trends for Spring | Summer 2017.
There are a couple of trends that are making the rounds this year; from muted shades of pink and blue, to Moroccan-inspired patterns and colours.
This Spring and Summer you can be inspired by a muted, natural colour
palette, highlighted with soft hues of blush pink and a few strokes of
palest blue. These soft colours bring out the best of your living spaces
and complement a neutral palette of grey, white or cream.
If it’s time to refresh your home with paint, pop into your local paint
or hardware store and let them mix up a batch of blush pink for walls
or trim. This subtle colour is perfect for accent or features walls, or
for creating a stand-out feature.
While you may think that pink is very feminine, blush pink is not a bold,
brash or girly shade of pink, it’s a more delicate hue of pink – a hint of
pink that is almost neutral. Think back to the Patone colour combination
for 2016, which consisted of Rose Quartz and Serenity. These colours are
now making their appearance in home decor and accessories for the season.
Blush pink signifies tranquility and softness, and it’s a great colour
for creating a welcoming space that feels comfortable and relaxed,
and while ideal for bedrooms and bathrooms, it’s a colour that can
be used in any room in a home. Blush pink works well with so many
other colours, and brings out the best in natural woods and copper
or rose gold metallics – also trending for Spring | Summer 2017.
If you prefer a more vibrant colour palette for the home, you’ll love
this year’s trend that brings together the meditative qualities of
deep blue with Moroccan-inspired patterns.
From cushions to table settings, intricate geometric patterns inspire
you to spice up your living rooms with bold accessories. Taking
their inspiration from Moroccan design, you will find a selection
of accessories for all the rooms in a home.
This season’s accessories for a dining table – indoor or outdoor –
are anything but plain. You can dress tables in a riot of colour and
pattern that is sure to make a statement for any occasion.
