♦ Hummingbirds are found from southeastern Alaska through North America, all the way down to southern Chile.
♦ Their feet are used for perching only, not for hopping or walking.
♦ A hummingbird beats its wings around 70 times per second in direct flight and over 200 times per second while diving.
♦ They can’t smell very well but can see an array of colours due to their ability to process ultraviolet light.
♦ These birds are very territorial and have been observed chasing each other and even birds as large as hawks away from their territory.
